CHARLOTTE — A new rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services could make it harder for Americans to keep their Medicaid coverage.
A federal work requirement begins in January. There is an exemption for so-called “medical fragility.”
The centers’ new rule strictly defines who is eligible by saying that a person’s illness or medical condition has to significantly impair their ability to work.
Officials said states can use health claims data to verify eligibility.
