The second snowfall of the year blanketed Uptown Charlotte Tuesday, surprising residents as snow accumulated on roads and buildings.
The snowfall occurred as people were heading home from work, causing drivers to take it slow on the roads. Many people were seen walking through Uptown, enjoying the unexpected winter scene.
Slick conditions remained on the roads Wednesday morning and residents were advised to drive cautiously.
FORECAST:
- The snow from last night is long gone now, but the damage is done on the roads.
- The main roads are in decent shape this morning, but secondary and neighborhood streets are covered in snow and ice. Most neighborhoods saw well under an inch of snow, slightly higher amounts southeast.
- Temperatures won’t make it above freezing again today, so we are relying solely on the sun to thaw those roads out.
- Anything that doesn’t dry out today will refreeze quickly this evening when the sun goes down. Temperatures plummet back down to the teens again tonight before we finally warm back above freezing tomorrow.
- Temperatures will be back in the 40s by Friday and near 50 degrees this weekend.
- Our next weather maker for Monday will bring just rain along with it.
- No big blasts of cold coming back our way any time soon. Temperatures will hover near average in the lower 50s next week.
