Woman hit by minivan in Charlotte seeks justice

CHARLOTTE — A woman hopes police find whoever hit her on a busy Charlotte road and left her for dead.

Wanda Holmes, 66, says she got off a city bus at about 6 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2024, on East Arrowood Road.

She was crossing the street when she was hit.

“It’s just amazing that I was almost home and didn’t make it home,” Holmes said.

Detectives believe the driver of a minivan is to blame.

Holmes says she rides public transit often and crosses the street all the time.

“I don’t really remember anything else,” Holmes said. “The van hit me and must’ve knocked me out.”

The badly injured hit-and-run victim said she woke up in a hospital.

Holmes said she suffered several gashes to her face and around her eye, a broken leg, and a broken pelvis.

Doctors were forced to put a rod and screws in her leg to fix it all.

“They could have killed me,” Holmes said. “It changed everything to me.”

She was going to the gym daily but now is sidelined due to the hit-and-run.

Holmes said she is thankful she’s still around to share her story.

Now she just wants whoever was behind the wheel of the minivan to be found.

“I would like to know who hit me and left me there not knowing if I was dead, alive, anything,” Holmes said.

On Monday, she took a walk outside for the first time since the crash.
