CHARLOTTE — A family in west Charlotte is picking up the pieces after a fire has left their home on Tuckaseegee Road unrecognizable.
“I watched everything go up in seconds; like it was gone in seconds,” said fire victim Sharnice White.
White said not only did the family lose clothes, furniture, and sentimental items; but they also lost vital medical equipment.
“I noticed, like a heavy, dark smoke, and then I see, like a fire light,” White explained. “All I had time was to turn around and say, ‘Mom, come on. The house is on fire. And it was about time we made it to the living room; the smoke had already beat us there.”
White went on to say that her mother is now staying at Atrium Main after losing her essential medical supplies. She has also been spending some time in the ICU after inhaling smoke.
“We’re trying to get her a BiPAP machine replaced because she can’t sleep without it. She has to use oxygen to sleep,” said White. “She uses a walker, and she is just trying to get that so she can move around.”
White and her mother are asking for help to rebuild through a GoFundMe.
“It’s hard, like we’re trying to keep it together,” White said. “I’m a person who doesn’t ask for help, but I need all the help that I can get to try to figure this one out.”
