WAXHAW, N.C. — The Waxhaw Police Department is actively searching for Cassie Watson, a 38-year-old woman caught on doorbell cameras stealing packages in the Millbridge neighborhood last month.
Watson is accused of targeting USPS mail, specifically looking for checks and gift cards, during her thefts. The investigation was a collaborative effort between neighbors and police, utilizing modern technology to identify the suspect.
“I don’t know what’s going on in their minds. They know that there are cameras around, and they still do it,” said resident Eunice Howell.
The use of Flock Safety cameras, which capture license plates as cars enter and exit the neighborhood, played a crucial role in identifying Watson.
This technology is part of a service that homeowners’ associations can purchase to enhance neighborhood security.
Flock Safety partners with more than 100 law enforcement agencies across the state, providing tools to help solve and reduce crime in communities.
While the investigation is ongoing, residents like Eunice Howell feel safer with the installation of Flock cameras, which have been instrumental in aiding police efforts.
“Since we have those Flock cameras installed, they’ve helped a lot. Like some crimes going on around the neighborhood, especially like breaking in and stealing,” said Howell.
