Water main breaks prompt road closures in several cities

CHARLOTTE — Water departments in several cities have been dealing with water main breaks throughout the cold weather.

One lane of East John Street near Trade Street through downtown Matthews has been closed Monday because of a water main break.

It’s the third time a water main has broken in the intersection in the last three years.

However, Charlotte Water said the break is unrelated to the others.

In Monroe, crews spent most of Sunday repairing a break on East Roosevelt Boulevard at Highway 601.

Two westbound lanes of East Roosevelt Boulevard were closed from about 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Charlotte Water closed part of Providence Road near Barden Street in south Charlotte last week for several hours.
