Victim identified in fatal Catawba County crash

CLAREMONT, N.C. — On Saturday around 11:00 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision in Catawba County on Interstate 40 East near North Oxford Street.

A 2007 Ford Focus drove off the left side of the road and struck the guardrail. The driver then re-entered the roadway, drove off the right side of the road, and collided with a tree.

The driver, Kimberly Anne Brown, 47, of Black Mountain, died at the scene of the collision.

The initial investigation indicates that impairment and speed were not contributing factors in the incident.
