TROUTMAN, N.C. — A tractor-trailer rear-ended another big rig, causing the second one to hit several cars Friday afternoon on Interstate 77, shutting it down, troopers said.
The crash happened just after 2 p.m. on I-77 near Amity Hill Road.

One person was seriously injured and transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital.
Charges are pending when the investigation is complete.
The road was closed for approximately three hours.
