FORT MILL, S.C. — A Mecklenburg County Detention Officer has died following a crash in York County on Wednesday.
It happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Highway 460 near SC 160.
According to troopers, a Chrysler van was traveling east on Highway 460 when it left the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and hit a Honda Odyssey.
The driver of the Chrysler, 30-year-old Officer Aaron Tindall, died following the collision.
The driver of the Honda was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to troopers.
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office released a statement regarding Tindall’s death, saying:
"MCSO is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Officer Tindall. We offer our prayers and sympathy to his family and ask the community to keep them in their hearts during this time of grief. His passing is a great loss for our agency and our community," says Sheriff Garry L. McFadden. “We would also like to thank the South Carolina Highway Patrol for responding and standing with us through this difficult time.”
Officer Aaron Tindall had been employed with the department since April 2 and had worked at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center as a detention officer.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
