Restaurant ends 14-year run in Belmont

The Sake Express location in Belmont

BELMONT, N.C. — Sake Express is leaving Belmont — for now. The Japanese restaurant’s owners, Lisa and Linda Nguyen, took to social media this week to confirm it will take a “brief hiatus.”

Its current location at 675 Park St. is set to close on Jan. 24. Sake Express has operated there for 14 years.

“We want to provide great service and great food until the end,” Linda Nguyen says.

She says the restaurant’s lease was up for renewal. Efforts to reach an agreement for a new deal failed, which was heartbreaking, she says.

“It’s been home to us for so long,” she says.

Nguyen says the sisters are working to secure a new Belmont home.
