CHARLOTTE — Rain over the Charlotte area kept fans from catching the PGA action at Quail Hollow Golf Club in person on Monday.
The opening ceremony started on Monday morning, but there wasn’t much going on at the course due to heavy rainfall throughout the day. Players were still allowed to play practice rounds.
However, keeping spectators away allowed the grounds crew to keep conditions in top shape.
Even though players didn’t get much time to practice, most are familiar with the layout, as the PGA Tour plays at Quali Hollow each year.
“You know it’s going to be high energy in a big environment,” ESPN analyst Peter North said. “You just have a different feeling in your gut; you know it’s going to be a tough, hard test of golf. Quail Hollow always is.”
Before the tournament officially tees off on Thursday, you can catch some of the players practicing and getting a feel for the course. If you had a ticket to Monday’s practice, you can use it on Tuesday or Wednesday.
This year, fans will notice new hospitality areas like the first-ever double-decker seating area on the 17th green.
