Statesville teen arrested after gunfire in Walmart parking lot

STATESVILLE, N.C. — On Sunday, Statesville Police responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot of Walmart on Crossroads Drive, where a vehicle was hit by gunfire.

Officers arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. and discovered several shell casings and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.

Witnesses and video surveillance helped identify a suspect vehicle that fled the area after the shooting.

Prior to the shooting, the suspects were involved in a shoplifting larceny inside the Walmart store. The Statesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division quickly began an investigation.

Keandre Terrell Cauthen, 18, of Statesville, was arrested at a residence where the suspect vehicle was located.

He faces charges of discharging a firearm into occupied property and misdemeanor larceny.

Cauthen was given a $100,000 secured bond. Authorities are still searching for a second suspect who has not yet been identified.
