CHARLOTTE — Two men are dead following a shooting at the former Lamplighter Inn Motel in northwest Charlotte on Thursday afternoon.
Police received the call shortly after 1:15 p.m. and found two men who had been shot when they arrived at the scene.
Both victims were transported to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, according to Major Michael Anderson of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
A construction worker who witnessed the shooting described the scene, stating, “so one black car come turn around got out and shoot it seven times, the bullet and shoot it on the floor two.”
“I was sitting on my balcony over here, this hotel over here, and I heard the shots,” said Kenneth Burden, a nearby resident.
Burden expressed his fear for his safety, saying, “I’m 68 years old, I’m out here fearing for my life.”
The motel, which is currently under renovation, has a troubled history. It was condemned after a group attempted to use it to help the homeless.

Police have not released any information about the victims or the shooter, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine who is responsible.
