CHARLOTTE — A student fired a gun near a school bus stop in south Charlotte early Tuesday morning, but no students were injured, according to police.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Baltimore Avenue near South Tryon Street.
Police said the school bus was not hit and does not appear to have been the intended target.
Neighbors in South Charlotte have expressed concern over the frequency of violent incidents in the area.
Parent Tareica Moore noted that such occurrences are becoming too common.
“My message is please, stop the violence, stop the guns,” said Moore, whose daughter was on the bus at the time of the incident. “These are kids; let this generation live.”
In March 2022, a 13 and 14-year-old were shot in the area, resulting in the death of the older teen.
More recently, in late 2023, three teenagers were charged with the murder of 30-year-old Maurice Moore.
Following the shooting, the principal of Myers Park High School sent a message to parents confirming the report of gunshots near bus number 831 and assured them that the bus driver had left the area safely.
The incident has raised concerns about gun violence in the community, with residents calling for action to ensure the safety of children and families in the area.
