CHARLOTTE — A man told Channel 9′s Jonathan Lowe that a security guard stabbed him over the weekend at Woodshed Bar in west Charlotte.
The bar is on Queen City Drive near Billy Graham Parkway.
Just after 1 a.m., MEDIC confirmed one person was transported to Atrium CMC with serious injuries.
Court paperwork and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department police report confirmed officers arrested 34-year-old Christopher Harris.
He is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County jail under no bond.
Channel 9 spoke with the victim, Rod Jackson, who said he was stabbed twice in the torso.
“She said if he would have probably got a little deeper, I probably could have bled to death,” Jackson said from his hospital bed. “It did get my large intestine so they had to cut my stomach open.”
Jackson said things started as a verbal argument between him and Harris. The bar was crowded and Harris told him to get out of the way, Jackson said.
“He was like, ‘You can leave,’ and I was like, ‘I’m not going nowhere. We just paid for a drink,’” Jackson said.
Things turned physical and the two were separated.
Witnesses said other bar employees escorted Harris outside. Jackson believes someone let Harris back in through another door.
“As soon as I touched the door, he was back inside at the door,” Jackson said. “He just went to stabbing me.”
Timothy Lee, Woodshed’s owner, said he has reached out to the victim to offer any support he can provide.
“He was a patron here,” Lee said. “He is welcome here and in good standing with the bar, again, it’s an unfortunate incident. But we are, me, my staff, everyone, our concern is for the safety and well-being of that individual and our thoughts and prayers are with him.”
Lee said Harris was contracted through a third party. Lee also said he does not hire armed security so Harris should not have had a weapon.
He said Harris’ only responsibility was to wand people and maybe conduct the occasional pat down to keep weapons like a knife out.
“It was not a part of his job description or anything that had to do with the bar and what it stands for,” Lee said.
When the time is right, Lee said he will contact Jackson directly.
“We will do whatever we can to provide support and we’ll give full transparency,” Lee said.
Jackson said he couldn’t understand why Harris allegedly got so irate and violent.
“I’ve never had an issue with him, me and him never exchanged words,” Jackson said. “From what I’m hearing, he’s had numerous altercations with people to where people have reported that he’s real hostile.”
