‘Be aware’: 1 dead after Charlotte Transit Center shooting, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police taped off about half of the Charlotte Transit Center to investigate a fatal shooting on Saturday night.

MEDIC responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. An ambulance sped off alongside a police car as Channel 9′s Glenn Counts arrived at the scene. Officials said that the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

CMPD responded to the call about an assault with a deadly weapon with injury on the 300 block of East Trade Street. Officials told Counts that the murder occurred on the second floor of the transit center near the light rail.

This is the second homicide at the Charlotte Transit Center that Channel 9 has reported on in the previous few months. Counts asked CMPD if this is raising any concerns.

“This is a highly traveled, highly congested area, as is a lot of Charlotte,” Major Ryan Kendall said. “I think it’s important to remember the entire city is our concern. We stress that people remain vigilant wherever they go in the city. Be aware of your surroundings, things can happen anytime, anywhere.”

Officials have identified the victim as 31-year-old Qualo Trevon Daniels.

The police have not made any arrests, but told Counts that they have plenty of surveillance video to review to help with the case.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked that anyone with information regarding the incident call 704-432-8477.

A GoFundMe page has been started to honor Daniels and assist his family in a tribute to his life. To contribute to the fund, visit this page.
