CHARLOTTE — A well-known Uptown Charlotte building is getting a rebrand and facelift.

Chicago-based Northpond Partners is planning a complete overhaul of Packard Place, which it has renamed The Stuward. Work on the five-story building at 222 S. Church St. will include an updated exterior and a renovated first-floor common area that will mimic the hospitality of a boutique hotel lobby. That space will have functional seating areas and an 18-hour food-and-beverage concept that Northpond will announce at a later date.

The 95,128-square-foot building, built by James Ward Packard in 1928 as an automobile showroom, will also have four floors of creative office space available, ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 square feet.

Northpond is planning to invest about $4 million, and renovations are expected to be completed by early 2024.
