Nurse brings joy to Levine Children’s Hospital patients with personalized art

CHARLOTTE — A nurse assistant at Levine Children’s Hospital is bringing joy to young patients through personalized art, brightening the recovery journey for children like 5-year-old Cali Pait.

Cali Pait, who is recovering from a serious car crash, has been uplifted by the artistic talents of Amaia Tims, a certified nurse assistant at the hospital. Tims creates custom drawings for each child, asking about their favorite colors and interests to make the art personal and meaningful.

“On Oct. 24th we got into a pretty bad head-on collision, and Cali was airlifted from Rockingham here that day,” said Cali’s father, Nicholas Pait.

“I think, like, one day, I decided to draw one of the kids a poster, and the way they reacted to it was, like, really heartwarming,” Amaia Tims explained. “So I just started doing it like for every kid.”

Amaia Tims’ artwork ranges from characters like Toy Story, Ariel, and Tiana to popular figures like Taylor Swift and Michael Jordan. Bluey is one of the most requested subjects, followed by SpongeBob SquarePants.

Cali’s father expressed gratitude for the hospital staff’s efforts, saying, “Like her, having the halo has not bothered her one bit, and it’s because all of the staff, and especially Amaia, like I said, they just, they go that extra mile and always make sure these kids have a smile on their face.”

Cali’s family plans to frame her Toy Story drawing as a cherished memory of her time at the hospital. “It’s so simple, but it makes me happy, like my gifts can be used to help kids that’s going through like a hard time,” Amaia Tims reflected on her work.
