Last week a teenager was shot and killed in front of his home on Lambeth Drive. Today, a second person was hurt as the house was hit by gunfire.
The neighborhood is stunned because the victim’s home was targeted for a second time. Sunday’s incident followed an emotional vigil for 16-year-old Tyshawn Stokes.
The teen’s family said the Julius Chambers High School junior was looking forward to the start of the school year.
“We’re a close-knit family and this right here really hurts,” said Christy Ross, the victim’s cousin.
The murder took place at the teen’s home and Saturday night, the family held a balloon release in his memory at the same location.
“But they went after them again twice,” said a witness.
The witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he heard the shots when the victim’s house was targeted early Sunday morning, hours after the vigil.
“They came back and shot the momma house up again and it was sad,” the witness said. “They were all out there and everything, didn’t nobody get hit.”
Family members told Channel 9 they had not been living at the home since the murder and only returned because of the vigil. Some residents who live along Lambeth Drive don’t feel like their street is safe anymore.
“I have a lot concerns because we have a lot of small children in this area who run and play here,” said Kimberly Kelly, a resident.
Kelly has lived in the neighborhood for six years. She said she would like to move out if she could find a place she can afford.
“Honestly, I don’t come out after a certain time,” she said.
Family members said the man who was shot this morning was not a relative or a friend. They said he was grazed and was able to walk home and call 911 once he got there.
The family is not certain if the same suspects are responsible for both shootings.
