CHARLOTTE — Homeowners’ insurance is going to rise in North Carolina.
A settlement has been reached between the North Carolina Department of Insurance and the North Carolina Rate Bureau, the latter of which had initially requested an average 42.2% rate increase last year.
With the settlement, the average statewide base rate will increase by 7.5% on June 1 and another 7.5% on June 1, 2026. Under the agreement, the Rate Bureau, which represents homeowner’s insurance companies in the state, agrees not to try to increase rates again before June 1, 2027.
