RALEIGH — The number of people working in North Carolina is getting smaller.
The N.C. Department of Commerce released a new report, which states that since 2023, 61.4% of people 16 and older were working.
As of June 2026, that’s fallen to 58.6%.
Many things are driving the change, including people retiring and young people choosing to stay in school longer.
