Mecklenburg County commissioners announce new county manager

CHARLOTTE — Mecklenburg County commissioners announced Mike Bryant as the new county manager during their meeting Tuesday night. Channel 9 reporter Jonathan Lowe said the decision was unanimous.

Bryant, who previously served as the deputy county manager, will replace Dena Diorio. Diorio, whose retirement is effective July 1, had served as county manager since December 2013.

Commissioner Mark Jerrell previously told Channel 9′s Political Beat that the hope was to make the hire by spring so the new county manager can train under Diorio before she officially retires.

The county manager is responsible for administration in all departments within the Mecklenburg County government. However, there could be different terms in Bryant’s new contract, including compensation.
