CHARLOTTE — Dasean Maddox pleaded guilty on Thursday to the murder of Jameisha Wilkes, 33, and their unborn child, agreeing to serve 25-31 years in prison under a plea deal.
Maddox had an affair with Wilkes, who was unaware that he was married.
When she told him about the pregnancy, the DA’s office said he tried to make her get an abortion.
She said no and she would raise the child on her own but that he needed to tell his wife about the affair.
On Nov. 13, 2024, Maddox went to Wilkes’ house, located off Odell School Road near Interstate 485, and asked her to come outside.

He then shot and killed her along Strive Street, and ran over her phone.
“Jameisha left her daughter inside her apartment and went to her car in the parking lot not knowing the defendant was waiting with her with a gun,” said Monica Noble, assistant district attorney.
Within an hour of the homicide, Maddox’s wife was one of the people who called 911. She said her husband confessed to her that he shot Wilkes because of the affair.
‘A great mother’
Wilkes’ nonverbal autistic seven-year-old daughter was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Wilkes’ mother expressed that her granddaughter does not understand why “mommy went outside and never came back in.”
“She was a great mother,” said Wilkes’ mother, Deidra Howard. “She was my baby. She was my baby, and she did not deserve this at all.”
Howard said the guilty plea is a step toward healing.
“I’m happy with the sentence that he did receive,” Howard said. “But what does justice feel like when someone’s taken and especially from a seven-year-old?”
Howard said they will forever honor Wilkes and make sure her daughter knows she was loved.
“We keep reminding her that her mother loved her, and her mother loved her with everything that was in her,” Howard said.
Maddox apologized to his family and Wilkes’ family in court.
