CHARLOTTE — A man and a juvenile are facing murder charges for an October shooting in northwest Charlotte.
Court records say Zantavious Walker, 25, of Charlotte, was arrested Tuesday on multiple felony charges.
Both Walker and the kid were also charged with felony conspiracy and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says Peter Batista Fana was killed after someone fired shots into a home on Winding Branch Court at about 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 8.
Police said Fana was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries after the shooting. He succumbed to his injuries there the next day.
A witness told police she was with Fana in bed with their 10-month-old in an upstairs bedroom.
Someone outside fire rounds into the room and one struck Fana in the head, she said.
Detectives said the house was struck by 18 bullets.
Surveillance video showed a stolen Chevy SUV parked on a nearby street with its lights off.
Two people wearing hoodies got out, ran down to Winding Branch Court toward the house as a third person remained in the driver’s seat.
Gunshots were heard on the video and the suspects returned to the Chevy and drove off.
The suspects ditched the SUV and police recovered it and processed it.
Inside the SUV, detectives found a business card of an employee with the Mecklenburg County Criminal Justice System. There was a court date on the back, which was tied back to Walker for having a stolen vehicle. His address was also where police recovered the stolen Chevy, on Sharon Chase Drive in Charlotte.
They also looked through Walker’s phone where there was a photo of him inside the stolen Chevy used in the shooting.
Walker is expected to face a judge Wednesday morning.
