Investigation underway after human remains found near old Lenoir Mall

LENOIR, N.C. — Police are investigating after someone found human remains behind the old Lenoir Mall in Caldwell County.

Channel 9′s Dave Faherty learned that police got the call around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. They responded to the old mall off of Morganton Boulevard and found a person in a wooded area.

Investigators said the victim may have been in that spot for a while. It’s not clear how the person died at this time.

The victim hasn’t been identified yet.

Police said they’re working with the State Bureau of Investigation and hope to release more information on the case by Wednesday.
