CHARLOTTE — Eric Collins, the energetic play-by-play broadcaster for the Charlotte Hornets, is known for his dynamic style that captivates viewers from the first moment.
Collins’ broadcasting career began with a high school basketball game in Chicago, where he immediately fell in love with the craft. Despite receiving advice to build up excitement gradually, Collins chose to deliver full energy from the start, believing that every moment should be engaging for the audience.
“The producer actually came up to me after my very first game and said that was great but you have to remember you kind of have to build up to something and I said no I don’t,” Collins recalled.
Collins’ approach to broadcasting is akin to a roller coaster ride that launches at full speed, ensuring that viewers are entertained even if they only tune in for a few minutes. His philosophy is to make every second count, as he understands the ease with which viewers can change channels.
The Hornets are currently on the road in Memphis but will return to Charlotte for a series of home games starting Friday at the Spectrum Center, where fans can experience Collins’ thrilling commentary firsthand.
