CMPD investigating after man shot, killed in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — An investigation is underway after a man was shot to death outside a south Charlotte apartment complex Friday, police said.

It happened outside the Emerald Bay Apartments on Cherry Crest Lane, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. That’s just off South Boulevard and Archdale Drive.

Channel 9’s Hunter Sáenz was at the scene Friday where police told him they got a call about a shooting in the area just before 8 a.m.

Someone saw the body from afar and thought something was off, CMPD said, so they called police and asked if they could come check on the person.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators are now working to find out how this started, with CMPD asking for people to put down the guns.

“Nobody wants to be at a scene like this. Every one of these scenes is tragic for multiple people – for the families [and] friends of the victims,” CMPD Officer Ryan Kendall said.

Police are now trying to figure out if the shooting actually happened at the apartment complex or somewhere else.

Officers told Channel 9 they’re canvassing nearby apartments, trying to get any information from residents who may have seen or heard something.
