Homicide investigation underway in parking lot of University City apartments

CHARLOTTE — Police in University City responded to a deadly shooting at an apartment complex close to UNC Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon.

At about 2 p.m., Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the Mallard Green apartments on Mary Alexander Road near East Mallard Creek Road.

The shooting victim was dead in the parking lot with guns on the ground nearby.

Students at UNC Charlotte got a “Niner Alert” about the police activity.

“When you get the alert it’s like, OK something happened, but seeing it, it feels like … Wow, I’m pretty close to this,” a student told Channel 9.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it’s not looking for anyone. Investigators did not say anything about suspects during a news conference they held at the scene of the crime.

Also, there was no threat to the public and UNC Charlotte, police said.
