One lane reopens following gas leak in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — One lane has reopened after a gas leak caused a major road to be closed in south Charlotte.

The issue was reported on South Tryon Street near Fairwood Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom captured the large hole being worked on by crews.

Piedmont Natural Gas said a third-party contractor hit the line while digging underground.

Officials announced that the roadway was expected to fully reopen Wednesday night.
