MAIDEN, N.C. — Two former workers at a preschool in Catawba County are accused of assaulting and abusing children.
Police in Maiden charged Cheryl Dobbs and Daisha Williams after they say student interns from Maiden High School alerted them to the allegations involving 16 children.
According to court documents, children between the ages of 2 and 3 were hit, stuck with a fly swatter, and sprayed in the face with a soap-water mixture.
Police collected hundreds of hours of video from the classroom at the Rosewald Preschool Academy and shared it with parents.
On Friday, Channel 9 spoke with a couple who said they have a three-year-old in the classroom and were stunned to learn of the allegations and see the video.
“Upset – we cried. Shaken…disappointed because we take our kids there and we’re thinking that our kids are being protected,” Shamar Wilfong said.
A judge increased the bond for Dobbs on Friday from $10,000 to $20,000 when she appeared in court.
So far, the preschool is not discussing the allegations, but they told Channel 9 they’re cooperating fully with authorities.
