RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — The evacuation order for Rutherford County has been lifted, according to North Carolina Emergency Management.
Just after 3:30 p.m., officials originally announced that residents were to evacuate immediately due to a rapidly developing fire in the area.
Around 6 p.m., officials said the fire had been 100% contained, and residents who were evacuated were able to return home safely.
Fire crews said extremely high winds fueled the fire, which spread to nearly 5 acres.
They will remain in the area throughout the night to monitor conditions.
