Driver charged after hitting two students in Morganton, police

MORGANTON, N.C. — A residential school in Morganton is asking for community support after a driver hit two students at a pedestrian crossing.

According to the Morganton News Herald, the accident occurred near the entrance of the North Carolina School of Science and Math Wednesday evening.

Police said the students were attempting to cross the street, using the designated crosswalk on West Fleming Drive.

The vehicle, traveling west, then struck both students as they crossed the roadway. The students were then taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Police said the driver, 42-year-old Trisha Crutchfield, has been charged in connection with this case.

The school is now asking for support from the community for pedestrian safety enhancements at that intersection.
