CROUSE, N.C. — Troopers are looking for the driver who hit a 13-year-old riding his bike in Crouse located in Lincoln County.
His parents say he is lucky to be alive.
The teen told Channel 9′s Ken Lemon he was thrown from his bike as it went under the SUV.
Kahne Sellers is fortunate to only have a concussion and a fractured toe.
He said he was riding his bike on Gaston Webbs Chapel Road Tuesday night when an SUV hit him and kept going.
“They didn’t slow down or nothing,” said Kahne Sellers.
Troopers said the 13-year-old was riding his bike along a white line on the edge of the road when the SUV hit him.
“I went over the handlebars. The bike went under the car, and I got flung 15 feet,” the teen said.
He said he saw the SUV pulling away after landing on the ground reeling from a blow to the head.
“I was like hopefully they are going to stop, but they didn’t,” he said.
“Doesn’t even check. Doesn’t even tap the brakes,” his mother, April Sellers, said.
Troopers say that based on the items they collected from the scene, they know it was a white GMC SUV and the driver had to know they hit someone.
Kahne’s father said a woman at a stop sign a half block away saw the crash and ran to help his son.
“It’s a shame when somebody can hit somebody and drive off,” said Dustin Sellers, his father.
His son had a concussion and a fractured toe that kept him out of school for two days. He went back Friday morning.
“I want to know why. Why you couldn’t stop to help a child in need that you hit?” his mom said.
Kahne Sellers said he was glad to finally get back to school with his friends, but he is not sure when he will go riding again.
