BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Joseph Shustek, a detainee at the Buncombe County Detention Facility, was mistakenly released on Thursday, but is now back in custody, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office described the release of Shustek as a ‘serious institutional failure’ and has taken full responsibility for the procedural error that led to his release.
