LANSING, N.C. — The family of a missing 63-year-old Ashe County man is offering a $5,500 reward for information directly leading to his whereabouts.
Steven Wayne Lecount was reported missing on Aug. 10 from Howell Road in Lansing.
Lecount is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs around 160 pounds.
Channel 9’s Dave Faherty learned as many as seven counties were involved in the search efforts, including some as far away as Cabarrus and Lincoln counties. Crews have searched nearly 700 acres around the area, using dogs and drones across the mountainside.
The search was called off on Aug. 17 — a week after he was first reported missing.
Lecount’s sister, Cheri Granger, showed us the reward posters now going up for her brother Steven Lecount. She said she became worried after going out and returning to her home in August and realizing her brother wasn’t there.
“Automatically I panicked,” she said. “He never went anywhere by himself since he’s been living here”
Granger says a motorcycle accident when Steven was young and a recent stroke changed his life, leaving him with cognitive issues and making it difficult for him to communicate.
Granger is thankful for everyone who has helped, but she says she is not giving up hope.
“For your prayers and all your support,” she said. “Just keep looking. I still feel he’s out there.”
Granger says the Ashe Rescue Squad told her they will follow up on any lead.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office at 336-846-5600.
