‘Traumatic experience’: 1 killed, others hurt in west Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal crash in west Charlotte on Thursday evening.

It happened just before 6 p.m. on the 1400 block of Beatties Ford Road.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, a pedestrian was killed in this incident, and another person was seriously hurt.

Five others were evaluated but declined transportation, according to firefighters.

Witnesses at the scene told Channel 9’s Glenn Counts that some members of the Mormon church were on bicycles doing mission work when they were hit by a car.

They said that the driver of another car had been speeding and driving recklessly when it sideswiped the vehicle that hit the victims on the sidewalk.

“I heard a car speeding down the road. Man, it was very loud, so I was like, ‘What in the world is that?’ I had time to walk out the back door, and by the time I looked out the front, I saw it just crashing,” said witness Donnell Dixon.

“I’m praying. There was another woman standing there, and we were praying for this young man. This is a traumatic experience. This is not the first person I’ve seen get killed on Beatties Ford, but to get killed this way, his body was so dismembered,” said witness Frances Hall.

No additional details have been made available.
