CHARLOTTE — A 37-year-old man died early Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle in the Hickory Grove Division. Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the fatal collision.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in the 8600 block of Harrisburg Road. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian was identified as Eric Neigenfind, 37.
First responders located Neigenfind unresponsive and slightly off the roadway to the right, near the curb at the intersection of Harrisburg Road and First Run Court, CMPD said.
MEDIC pronounced Neigenfind deceased at the scene.
The vehicle involved in the collision was a Honda Accord. The car was located stopped at the intersection of Harrisburg Road and First Run Court upon the arrival of emergency personnel.
The 42-year-old driver remained on the scene.
Investigators with the Major Crash Investigation Unit determined that speed does not appear to be a contributing factor for this collision. The driver was screened for impairment and was found not to be impaired.
Impairment for Neigenfind is currently unknown. Investigators are awaiting results from a pending toxicology report.
