Davidson College adds solar canopy expected to provide 5% of campus power

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson College is expanding its renewable energy efforts with a new solar canopy over the parking lot at the Baker Sports Complex.

The campus dedicated the solar installation Thursday morning.

In addition to providing shade for parked cars, the panels are expected to generate about 5% of the electricity Davidson typically uses throughout the year.

It’s the second major solar project the college has helped bring online this year.

Davidson says the projects are part of its broader effort to reduce its environmental impact, with a goal of cutting campus carbon emissions in half.
