LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Crews will resume the search for a missing kayaker on Mountain Island Lake Monday morning.
Huntersville Fire says the kayaker disappeared in the water near the Highway 73 bridge sometime Sunday evening. That’s near the McGuire Nuclear Station.
They had to suspend the search later that night because of high winds.
Channel 9’s Ken Lemon was near the family of the missing boater Monday morning. They said they are hoping for the best. Church members also came to the lake to pray for him.
Teams from several neighboring counties are working to find him. Searchers say they are focusing on the foot of the dam, where witnesses say they saw the kayak go under Sunday evening.
The water was very cold overnight, and the search teams say they know time is not on their side.
Organizers say Duke Energy has stopped the flow of water over the dam to help searchers.
They have two command posts established — one organizing the search by air and another working on the search by water.
