Crews respond to fire at Matthews Sam’s Club

MATTHEWS — A fire broke out at a Sam’s Club in Matthews Sunday afternoon.

Officials said it happened just after 2:30 p.m.

They said it might have started because of an electrical fire at the store.

One witness told Channel 9 that it sounded like fireworks were going off.

Officials said they had to turn off the power before crews could contain the fire.

Charlotte Fire is investigating what caused the fire.
