CMS Cabinet member arrested for DWI

CHARLOTTE — CMS Chief of Strategic Communications Dr. Stephen Esposito is accused of driving while intoxicated.

According to court records, Esposito blew 0.11 on the breathalyzer Thursday night. The arresting agency is listed as CMPD.

Channel 9 has reached out to CMS and CMPD for comment.

Esposito serves in a cabinet-level position for CMS. He oversees the communications department.

Esposito’s bond was set at $2,500 unsecured. He has been released from jail. CMS Board members were notified about the arrest via email.

CMS released a response: “Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is aware of an arrest involving a district employee. The incident is unrelated to district operations or school activities. No further information can be shared at this time, in accordance with state statutes regarding the confidentiality of personnel information.”
