CMPD officer hit by vehicle during attempted copper theft

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer was injured Tuesday morning while responding to an attempted copper wire theft in the 3500 block of Robinson Circle in north Charlotte.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 10:34 a.m. following a suspicious person call. The caller reported that individuals were trying to steal copper wire at the location.

Upon arrival, officers encountered four suspects at the scene. One suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle, injuring an officer during the attempt.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later discharged.

Police took all four suspects into custody. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the investigation remains active and ongoing.
