CMPD investigating homicide in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a homicide in east Charlotte.

Officers responded to the 4600 block of Coronado Drive at about 11 a.m. Monday and found an unresponsive victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andrian Price, who lives in the neighborhood where the incident took place, said he woke up from his nap to patrol cars down his street.

“I don’t know what was going on, but I seen that the cop car that got, like, the homicide thing or something on the side,” said Price. “So I was like, Oh man, something bad must have happened.”

When police arrived at the scene, they called it a homicide.

“It’s kind of shocking to know that somebody died just right there from a homicide,” said Willy Kidamu, who also lives in the neighborhood. “So I really want to find out what happened.”

Kidamu was at work when police roped off the complex where the incident occurred. He said that criminal activity in the area is uncommon.

“It’s a very calm neighborhood,” Kidamu said.

Police haven’t provided information on whether a weapon was involved. Neighbors told Channel 9 they didn’t hear any gunshots. With limited details into what unfolded, neighbors said they’re worried.

“You see stuff like this on TV and stuff, but like when it happens somewhere, like, real close to you, like, makes you, like, really think about it,” Price said.
