Car linked to missing woman found at death investigation scene in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A car linked to a missing woman was found Thursday morning at a death investigation scene in west Charlotte.

The death investigation is along Sanders Avenue, which is off Beatties Ford Road.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene, which was centered around a Honda on the property of an abandoned church at the corner of Sanders Avenue and Campus Street.

The car matches the description to the one connected to a missing persons case that CMPD shared pictures on Wednesday.

Frezja Baker, a 31-year-old mother, has been missing since last Dec. 4.

Family members said that Baker called them at 10:30 p.m. to say that she was an hour away. They didn’t hear from her again.

Officers found an unresponsive person inside the car at about 9:35 a.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. They pronounced the person deceased at the scene.

‘Crying all day’

Channel 9’s Tina Terry spoke with Baker’s friend, Wesley Winchester, on Thursday.

He believes the body belongs to his friend, but police have not confirmed that.

“I’m just praying for the family,” Winchester said. “I’ve been crying all day. I’m over how people treat people.”

Winchester said he got a call early Thursday morning from someone who said a body found in a car behind an old church.

“They were like, they think they found the location where she was at,” he said. “At the end of the day, a lot of people went out of their way to find her.”

Police said they have not determined the cause of death.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case.

No additional details have been made available, including if there is a suspect.
