Channel 9’s DaShawn Brown was at the team’s watch party in SouthPark as fans reacted to the news.
“I’m a little disappointed, but like they just said, four of the teams had a chance to get into the top four, and we’re the only one of those top four that did,” Hornets fan Justin Pippin said.
Executive Vice President Jeff Peterson said the team has prepared all season for the draft.
“Obviously, everyone is competitive and wants to win the lottery, but at the same time, this is what we do all our work for over the course of the season to prepare for all the players in the draft, so we’re really excited,” he said.
Charlotte also owns the 33rd and 34th overall picks later in the draft. They last picked at the 4th spot back in 2013 when they selected Cody Zeller.
The Hornets finished 19-63 last season.
The Dallas Mavericks won the 1st overall pick. The NBA Draft is set for June 25th in Brooklyn.
