CHARLOTTE — David Tepper paid an inflation-adjusted entry fee of $421 million in 2019 for an expansion team in Major League Soccer. Now, according to annual valuations just published by Sportico, that team — Charlotte FC — is worth 67% more than Tepper spent to add MLS to his portfolio.
Charlotte FC fell one spot from a year ago to 13th in value among the 29 MLS teams. Even so, the team’s value increased by 8% to $705 million. Sportico calculates the average team value at $721 million, up 6% over the average of $678 million in 2024.
Kurt Badenhausen, who oversees league and team valuations at Sportico, told CBJ that Charlotte FC “has been incredibly successful” from the club’s start in MLS.
