CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte City Councilman has announced that they will be leaving local government.
Tariq Bokhari has confirmed his resignation after serving four terms with Channel 9′s Joe Bruno.

After he resigns, Charlotte City Council will appoint a Republican replacement.

The outspoken Republican said he will be becoming the deputy administrator for the Federal Transit Administration.
He has represented District 6 since 2017.
In that time, Bokhari has sounded the alarm on CATS, which forced a leadership change.
He also called on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to allow officers to wear outer carrier vests.
Bokhari told Channel 9 that he is still finalizing when he will be leaving office, but expects to do so in the next couple of weeks.
After he resigns, the Charlotte City Council will appoint a Republican replacement.
