Charlotte City Council 2025 Primary: Mayor Vi Lyles wins; two incumbents lose seats on city council

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council Primary Updates:

City of Charlotte Mayoral race:

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles will win the Democratic primary. She will face Republican Terrie Donovan and Libertarian Rob Yates in November.

City of Charlotte At-Large Council:

Dimple Ajmera, Lawana Slack-Mayfield, James Mitchell, Victoria Watlington all won on Tuesday night.

District 1:

Dante Anderson (D) has a comfortable margin and will defeat Charlene Henderson El. Anderson will serve another two years as the District 1 representative. She faces no opposition in November.

District 3:

Joi Mayo declares victory over incumbent Councilmember Tiawana Brown in District 3.

District 4:

Renee Johnson (D) has a comfortable margin and will defeat Wil Russell. Johnson will serve another two years as the District 4 representative. She does not have opposition in November.

District 5:

With all precincts reported, JD Mazuera Arias has defeated incumbent Marjorie Molina by 37 votes. The race is subject to a recount. There is no Republican opposition in November.

District 6:

Krista Bokhari (R) has a comfortable margin and will defeat Sary Chakra in the District 6 primary. She will face Kimberly Owens (D) in November. Bokhari is the wife of former Charlotte City Councilman Tariq Bokhari.
