A viewer sent us this wild video early this morning—yes, that’s a monkey making a break for it through Troutman. As of now, no word on whether the little escape artist has been apprehended. pic.twitter.com/PGaIGLU3vb
Animal services says the monkey is owned by Zootastic Park in Troutman. They say they are actively working with the park to ensure the monkey is safely recaptured. It was seen on Oswalt Amity Road, which is near the zoo.
Residents said the owner of the park went door to door Wednesday morning asking about the monkey.
“My dog has been standing at the door barking a lot,” said neighbor Ruth Warren. “But I haven’t seen nothing of it. I’ve come out here looking around but I ain’t seen nothing.”
Parent Samantha England hopes her family sees it.
“It would be cool me and my kids to get a glimpse at it,” she told Channel 9’s Dave Faherty. “I mean, we’re neighbors and all, so we would like to say, ‘Hey,’ and make sure it gets home safe.”
Channel 9 reached out to the owner of the park by phone and email to find out more about the escape and if any changes will be made. We have not heard back.
Officials urge the public to stay safe by not attempting to catch, chase or interact with the monkey.
If you see the monkey, contact Iredell County Animal Services at 704-878-5335.
