Cabarrus County commissioners vote on Measmer’s replacement amid uncertainty

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — A controversial vote took take place in Cabarrus County Thursday morning.

Commissioners voted on who to appoint to outgoing Chairman Chris Measmer’s seat around 8 a.m.

Channel 9′s Joe Bruno reports Measmer voted on his own future vacancy, technically voting “present.” Cabarrus Commission rules state “present” votes default to a vote in the affirmative, thus giving the appointee three ‘yes’ votes.

Governor Josh Stein recently appointed Measmer to the North Carolina Senate, but Senate leader Phil Berger has not yet sworn him in.

Measmer, as well as county commissioners Laura Blackwell Lindsey and Larry Pittman, selected Lamarie Austin-Stripling to serve the remaining term.

She was endorsed by the Cabarrus GOP for the seat.

As Channel 9 reported, Commissioner Lynn Shue couldn’t attend due to dialysis. Commissioner Kenny Wortman also didn’t attend.
